Yoga and Pregnancy

Yoga is an excellent exercise for women who are pregnant. However certain common sense precautions should be taken during pregnacy before doing yoga (or any other form of exercise). Yoga and pregnancy go very well together provided care is taken to do the recommended exercises under the trained supervision and guidance of a professional yoga teacher. It is important to ensure that the health of the pregnant mother-to-be and that of her baby aren't endangered in any way.

For those prenatal women who have been doing yoga for quite some time and have a better understanding of what is involved it will still be necessary to get expert opinion before performing many exercises as there are unique considerations that need to be taken into account when pregnant.

Yoga during pregnancy will help the mother to be to remain more relaxed and calm and this will generally help in encouranging an easier childbirth - if 'easy' is ever ther right word to use!. A child who is delivered to a mother who has little stress in her life, a positive outlook and optimum health will also begin life with an advantage over those who come into the world under less ideal circumstances.

Relaxing yoga and pregnacy stress.

Being able to relax properly and remain calm, and also to understand and utilize correct breathing will make child birth a relatively more pleasant occasion. Yoga excels at fostering relaxation and calm, while helping to strengthen and support muscle tone that can otherwise often be lost during pregnacy.

Many women suffer from back pain during pregnancy and yoga is wonderful for helping to alleviate the pain and help with posture and the additional demands that are placed on the body.

Yoga is also an excellent form of exercise to help new mothers through the postnatal period where it is common for many women to suffer from post natal depression.

Even where post natal depression occurs, a person who is regularly practicing yoga will be able to cope better with the situation and more often than not overcome the depression faster than those who aren't taking advantage of the assistance that yoga can offer.

Yoga will also help to cope with the stresses that are to be expected with a new baby in the home.
